It Makes Sense To Use A Moisturizer With Sunscreen Deosn’t It?
It is commonly known that sunburn is really bad for your skin, so doesn’t it make sense that you should use a moisturizer with sunscreen?
But believe it or not the answer isn’t as clear as you might expect.
There’s no doubt that sunburn is really bad for our skin, in fact sunburn is probably one of the single worst things you can do to your skin.
If you really want to make sure your skin looks older with more sagging, wrinkles, dryness and lines just make sure you get regularly sunburned from an early age.
Not to mention skin cancer.
So surely it makes sense to use a facial moisturizer with sunscreen with an spf as high as you can get?
Not necessarily, though I’m certainly not saying that its fine to get sunburned.
So what reason is there for avoiding moisturizers with a high spf? The reason is that there is some evidence that daily use of sunscreens can be dangerous for your health, and there's even some recommendation that it can cause cancer.
Now that isn’t proven, however it is certainly suspected by many scientists. If you use a sunscreen occasionally, state 5 or 6 times a year when you go on the beach, the risk is very low. But if you use a moisturizer with sunscreen added you may well use it daily, and so the risk is way higher.
There are different types of sunscreen. Particularly 2 different types, those that work in the skin once they have been absorbed into the skin, and those that stay on the surface of the skin and don’t soak in, like zinc or titanium sunblocks.
If you’re using a sunscreen that soaks in then some of it will get into your blood. And the skin care products and moisturizers with sunscreen use the type that soaks in because it looks and feels superior that way.
And remember, any spf factor is produced by use of synthetic chemicals and you don’t really want synthetic chemicals in your blood.
And there’s more. If you block the sun to your face every day it’s possible that you could begin to suffer from vitamin D deficiency. There are studies that show that anything up to 60% of Americans suffer from a deficiency of vitamin D. (Though not all caused by sunscreen use by any means).
So what do you do about it?
Use the highest quality moisturizer possible, without sunscreen in it. The manufacturer of the worlds very ideal moisturizers and skin care products specifically doesn’t add a sunscreen to their products for all the reasons I’ve mentioned.
And when you think it’s a day when you’re apt to need a sunscreen use one, preferably with zinc or titanium. Most days you won’t need any spf factor, so don’t use one. And stock up on that vitamin D.
