What We Need To Know About How To Stay Younger
Knowing how to stay younger can help lead to a longer and more fulfilling life for older people. It’s not about plastic surgery or resorting to lying about one’s age (even though we’ve all done that!). It’s more about keeping up with the times and, therefore, seeming to be younger rather than huffing and puffing and appearing to state “bah, humbug” all the time.
One of the ways these people stay young is by making sure that they keep up with the latest technology and the latest trends is popular culture. The ability to use a computer, for example, is something young people take for granted. But for many older people, the computer is a frightening machine that they choose to avoid. If and when they choose to conquer their fear and learn to use it, the world suddenly becomes far more accessible and much, much smaller.
Many older people make the decision to retire to communities that cater to people the same age. No kids are allowed and in some cases residents must be fifty-five or older to be granted to live there. Such an environment could isolate the seniors from younger people and their ever-changing interests.
Physical exercise is another component of staying younger. The concept of “move it or lose it” makes a lot of sense during middle and old age. Joints that are moved a lot stay healthier and far more flexible that those that seldom move at all. The same is true for hearts and lungs, which both require some level of physical activity to stay in top working order.
Keeping an active and agile mind is another must if someone wants to stay young. Just as it is necessary to exercise physically, the brain needs frequent and rigorous workouts. Whether it is reading a book, doing a crossword puzzle or working a sudoku puzzle, mental agility is greatly enhanced by frequent exercise of the mind.
Finally, none of the above can be completely effective unless the older individual maintains his or her overall health by following a sensible diet. Fresh fruits and vegetables should be abundant at every meal and portions of meats and starches should be monitored closely.
